I love the color navy, but many are afraid to use it because they think it's too dark. Here are a few hints on how to make it work in your space.
A light floor can make all of the difference. Keeping the flooring a light, neutral color and carrying that color up and into the space like with the chairs and the lamp create a feeling of contrast and continuity.
Make it architecturally interesting by beefing up moldings. Keep the moldings a crisp white and it adds enough of an interesting balance to the room. Consider adding wainscoting or a chair rail to help break up the color block.
Throw in another blue that is lighter into the mix. Also, if you're not good at cutting in go ahead and take the color onto the ceiling too. It makes tall ceilings feel cozier and gives a room a feeling of age.
Again, the wood is a light but warmer tone that is carried up into the space through the wood desk and the window treatments.
Another way to break up the block of color is through a picture collage or a large art piece.
Love color, do not be afraid of it.
This is a great post! I love dark colors too and it is nice to hear a professional talk about it and how to do it right!
